Facilities
At Penhurst Retreat Centre, our facilities are all designed to enhance your Christian retreat experience and assist you as you step aside and spend time in this atmosphere of love and prayer.
Right from the start of your visit, the setting, deep in the tranquil Sussex countryside with its green fields, woods and gently rolling hills, will help to melt your stress away.
The Lounge
Is a comfortable homely space with a large fireplace where the open fire is lit in the colder months providing a cosy focal point.
The Dining Room
Is a light and airy space with hot and cold drinks and snacks available 24 hours a day.
The Chapel
Is in the ground floor annexe and easily accessible to all, 24 hours a day. It is used for worship, small groups and meetings. Bibles, music and other resources are avialble to use and the space can be set up with data projeciton equipment and flipchart or laid out in a boardroom style for team meetings.
The Library
On the lower ground floor of the main house there is a small but well-stocked library where you can browse a wide selection of books and perhaps find the perfect inspiration for your retreat.
The Snug
Also on this floor is our snug - a small, comfortable meeting room perfect for personal prayer, 1-1 sessions and small breakout groups.
Gardens and Grounds
The house is surrounded by three acres of attractive gardens and grounds with a variety of places to sit, enjoy the peace of the countryside and take time to reflect.
The Orchard
In the orchard there is a prayer labyrinth, small wildlife pond, a number of reflection points and three summerhouses or prayer pods which are ideal quiet spaces for one or two people to pray, read or contemplate the beauty of the views around.
Art Room
The Art Room is a lovely creative and accessbile space overlooking the orchard which is well-stocked with a variety of supplies and materials to inspire your creativity and help you draw closer to our creator God.
Bookshop
Our little bookshop is located in the hallway of the main house and we sell a wide range of cards, notelets and gifts from a select group of suppliers along with books and devotional resources developed by some of our retreat leaders. Many of our cards and gifts are made by creative members of the team and feature Penhurst as their inspiration.
Walks and Local Places of Interest:
Many walks through the beautiful East Sussex countryside start from the retreat centre taking in the lanes, woodland and farmland around and affording wide reaching views across to the south downs. The 1066 Way runs near the retreat centre and guests can easily join it to walk over Tent Hill which can be seen from the centre.
The historic town of Battle is close by where you can visit its famous Abbey, and wander along the high street. A short trip away will find you at the seaside, where you can visit a variety of beaches at Norman s Bay, Cooden Beach, Bexhill or Pevensey Bay.
