Individual Retreat
Why Should I Go on a Retreat?
Wherever you may find yourself in your walk with God, stepping aside from the distractions and stresses of everyday life to spend time with Him is so important - even Jesus made a priority of it. A retreat can come in many forms, you can just come, relax and spend time praying, reading, sleeping, and simply being with God.
At Penhurst, we undestand that personal retreats are unique to each individual. Our goal is to help you have a retreat experience that is both relevant and significant to you. Should you wish to incorporate specific aspects into your retreat (such as silence) we encourage you to chat with us about this when you book, this will help us ensure that your time at Penhurst is tailored to your personal journey of faith.
Here are some suggestions:
- Silent Retreat:
This can be a wonderful way of focussing on prayer and reflection and staying away from the distractions of chatting with other guests. Please do make it clear when you book if you wish to have a silent retreat and we will do our best to facilitate this. You can request a silent table in the dining room or opt to take meals in your room.
- Accompanied Retreat
The presence of another person from time to time during your stay, for companionship, prayer and listening can be very valuable, particularly if you are trying to resolve personal issues. We can organise for you to meet with someone who will be an open and accepting companion on your journey. They will offer encouragement and perhaps suggest methods and materials you might use as you spend time with God, during your retreat. Please request this at the time of booking. if you are looking for more daily input please see our programme for Individually Guided Retreat.
- Resources: For those who find comfort and inspiration in the written word, our library is a treasure trove of wisdom and Christian literature. It provides a quiet space for reading and reflection. Lose yourself in an inspiring book, discover new insights, or simply enjoy the serenity of this intimate space. We have other resources available in our chapel and lounge for you to browse and borrow along with comfortable Prayer Pods, well stocked Creative Space and a Snug.
- Book a Quiet Day You can also come to Penhurst for the day, our Quiet days include a main midday meal and refreshments throughout the day. Or you can book a Come and Be Still day at a reduced price, where you bring your own lunch but can still help yourself to refreshments. For either day you have the use of our public spaces, gardens and orchard. Contact us to find out more details.
