Debriefing and Retreats for Mission and Ministry Partners

This message was added on 2021-05-14

Penhurst Retreat Centre has a heart for serving the Christian mission and ministry community. In fact, supporting overseas workers was part of the history of the house even before it became a retreat centre.

At all times, but also in the midst of the current covid pandemic, overseas mission partners, cross-cultural workers, and full-time Christian ministry workers face unique circumstances and challenges.

We are aware of the huge need for overseas and UK mission partners and cross cultural workers to recharge their spiritual batteries in an environment conducive to physical rest and spiritual restoration.

We are also aware of the need for debrief in a supportive, caring, neutral and unhurried setting when people return from overseas.

During individual stays, we offer member care and debriefing, if arranged in advance.

There are also retreats specifically designed for the needs of mission partners and people in full-time ministry on our programme including the following retreats this year... click on the link sofr more information and online booking:

28 June - 1 July 2021: Fully Alive!
Jesus said `I have come that you might have life and have it in all its fulness` (John 10v10). We know that Jesus has called us to be fully alive, but we know too the reality of the quiet desperation, the weariness, the dull numbness of a muted life lived in the breathless rush of our days and in the demands of our roles and responsibilities. Come and explore what it means to live like Jesus, the fully alive One, in our lives and ministries; unpacking what it would mean to live loved, to live free, to live with the strength and the hope and the vulnerability of Jesus - even in our harder days.

5 - 8 July 2021: Mission debrief - Singles and Couples
Come and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Penhurst Retreat Centre as part of your home assignment or re-entry to the UK and take the opportunity to receive a personal debrief.  A restful week in which to reconnect with God and unpack your mission experiences.

26-30 July 2021: Grace Space for Mission Partners
An extended version of the popular Grace Space retreat specifically for those involved with overseas mission. An opportunity to step aside to be with `the God of all grace`, to meet with him where we really are in our life and ministry and to receive the deep refreshment that only he can give.

16-19 August 2021: New Directions
This retreat/workshop is for full-time Christian workers returning to the UK after ministry overseas or for an extended home assignment. It provides an opportunity to `unpack` the transition process and issues around adjustment in a context of group discussion, reflection and prayer within the beautiful setting of the retreat centre.  This retreat has been run at Penhurst many times and feedback from participants shows that it is extremely valuable in successfully navigating the re-entry process.

20-23 August 2021: Running the Race - Preparing for `Retirement`
This course will seek to help those who have been involved in full-time Christian ministry (UK and overseas) prepare for retirement and the years beyond. It will look at what we understand by `retirement`, the Biblical approach to old age, and in particular at the spirituality of ageing. This course will be relevant to those planning for retirement within the next 5 years, or those recently retired.  Those returning from overseas are also invited to join the New Directions retreat immediately prior to this which covers the issues of re-entry and re-adjustment to life in the UK.

29 Nov - 2 Dec 2021: New Directions
This retreat/workshop is for full-time Christian workers returning to the UK after ministry overseas or for an extended home assignment. It provides an opportunity to `unpack` the transition process and issues around adjustment in a context of group discussion, reflection and prayer within the beautiful setting of the retreat centre.  This retreat has been run at Penhurst many times and feedback from participants shows that it is extremely valuable in successfully navigating the re-entry process.
