This message was added on 2021-10-26

We are hosting a series of Advent retreats and Quiet Days.  Why not join us and spend some time in the peaceful surroundings of Penhurst, enjoying our hospitality and contemplating all that the season of Advent means.

Friday 26th - Sunday 28th November
Journeying into Advent with Hildegard of Bingen - led by Brigid Main
£225 residential / £145 non-residential

Hildegard - an amazing 11th century mystic, poet, musician, visionary, healer and fearless campaigner. Come and discover what she might have to say to us today. As we approach Advent with its themes of waiting, preparation, light in the darkness, the weekend is an opportunity to ponder and slow down.

Wednesday 8th December
Watching and Waiting - led by Fiona Bower
10am - 4pm with lunch, £35
This day of reflection will explore what Advent means to us and help us to ponder the significance of this special time of year. There will be time to pause and reflect using a series of Bible readings and prayers.

Thursday 9th December
A Certainty in Uncertain Times - led by Nicci Gagel
10am - 4pm with lunch, £35
Advent celebrates the certainty of the coming of the Saviour of the world. This retreat day will offer space and time to reflect and meditate on what this certainty means for you in this season.

Friday 10th December,
Bah Humbug! - led by Revd Peter Doodes
10am - 4pm with lunch, £35
This day will use sections of the film `A Christmas Carol` to explore four themes: `The Chains of Life`, living through difficult times and situations. `In the Past`, things that hold us back now. `Living Now`, being aware of God`s call for us in the present and `Future`, understanding God`s plan for our whole life.

Saturday 11th December
Caught in the Light of the Star - led by Jay Ashworth and Denise Fairbrother
10am - 4pm with lunch, £35
Taking inspiration from the poems of Mary Oliver, the beauty of God`s creation and verses from scripture we invite you to step aside on this Advent Quiet Day and find refreshment, inspiration and new ways of connecting with Emmanuel, God with us.

Monday 13th - Wednesday 15th December
Celtic Advent - led by David Cassian Cole
£295 residential / £205 non-residential
Advent is a significant period in the modern Christian calendar,  just as it was for the ancient
Celtic Christians. During this retreat, David Cole, author of the book `Celtic Advent` (BRF), will be sharing aspects of Advent and the lead up to Christmas as celebrated and focused on by the ancient Celtic Christians and monastic centres.
