In a consumer driven society, how can we live a Christian life and be a true follower of Jesus? This short retreat will focus upon how we can marry two very different values, the values of consumerism with the values of Christianity.

We recognise how difficult it is to live in a society where you are expected to conform to the values of consumerism, and where we are so often valued by our possessions.

Advertising teaches that we should consume, and while advertising can be seen as necessary for economic growth, it is not without social costs. To keep markets growing, companies must keep persuading us that we have unmet needs, we must be dissatisfied with what we have, and, subliminally, we often judge others that way, by what they have and how they appear.

In total contrast, Jesus owned nothing at all, other than the clothes that he stood up in. Jesus also said that the glory of King Solomon (whose wealth is estimated to be the equivalent of $2.2 Trillion today) could not compare to the flowers of the field.

This short retreat will focus upon how we can marry those two very different values, the values of consumerism with the values of Christianity. To have a little space away from our frantic consumer driven society in order to draw closer to God, to reflect on our Christian values, and to have time to explore the local area and look at the flowers of the fields.

Please note: This retreat will start at 10am on the first day.
